The dangers of TV

This isn't necessarily a rant against something that brings me my favorite weekly fixes. TV isn't inherently bad. It does inform and entertain (mostly entertain, but that's a topic for another day). I, at the ripe old age of 39, am not ashamed to admit I do watch Kid's TV. Yup. Rugrats, Fairly Odd Parents (Cosmo, you rule !!!). I do miss my classic Warner brothers (not that fake re-hash movie crap, but the original "kill the wabbit" cartoons) but again, another day.

One afternoon, I had the pleasure of being in front of my TV, watching cartoons and it was commercial time. The toy was...I'm still trying to find a valid reason (beyond as a joke) that anyone would have bought it. It was a toy dog that ..."urinates". What, fake barking and flipping over aren't enough anymore? How real do ya wanna make that thing? Are "realistic plastic teeth" next?

Then, there's Barbie. Nowadays, they're turning her into mythical creatures. The whole beach bunny/ballerina/olympic skater wasn't un-realistic enough. I had SuperStar Barbie when I was 10. She was who I used to play Scarlett O' Hara in my own rendition of Gone with the Wind.

Just some random thoughts.

What's the strangest resolution you've ever made?

The subject is Holidays, so....

What IS the strangest resolution you've ever made (or heard) ? I ask this because after years of not keeping a single resolution, I started making oddball ones that might be easier to keep, things like "I resolve not to go skydiving without a parachute".

What's yours?

A thought or two on the holidays

Now, I don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm anti-Christ(mas) or anything, but is anyone else sick of the mass consumerism that's shoved down our throats this time of year? Why does Madison Ave (or wherever the symbol of advertising is) start talking about the "Christmas Rush" before Halloween? Why do they need to add to the stress that this time of year brings for many? I get the whole commerce thing. Really. But we're all conditioned to want to spend beyond our means, rush around trying to make everything "perfect and get down because of the things we can't do. It's just awful. When I saw that video footage of people charging into a store to get the "hot item" of the season, I couldn't wonder, how many different parties were responsible for what happened? The store, the chain, the advertisers, the people who showed such disregard for the safety of others that they were willing to trample other people for the chance to spend a ridiculous amount of money on this item that won the "hot item of the year" lottery like Cabbage Patch dolls did so many years ago. What is wrong with us? So caught up in this manufactured idea are we that we forget what the holiday is supposed to represent. Lest anyone think that I'm gonna start telling the bible story, do not worry. I'm merely saying that the real symbolism of the various religions gets lost in the mix. This has been on my mind lately. I find myself getting caught up in it too. I actually have to tell myself, out loud, to stop. I was depressed because finances are tight this year and I couldn't do what I usually do. I seemed to have snapped out of it for the time being. So let me take the opportunity to wish everyone: Blessed Yule, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah.

Greetings All

Well, I thought I'd take the plunge. I enjoy everyone else's blog, maybe I'll have some fun doing this.

I must admit, there's "something" about having a forum to discuss thoughts & ideas with people who you've never met... a place to share lives, humor, maybe commiserate with those in similar situations. The internet in one of it's better moments.

I hesitated doing this because i wasn't sure anyone would be interested in anything I had to say. Now...it doesn't seem to matter so much because other people must search for things the same way I do. Most times, when I'm playing on the computer it is to find something quirky to entertain me. The things I have found.... ah, well, that's a post for another day. In any case, I figure I'm not the only one, so someone will stumble upon this and discussions will be started and perhaps, world problems can be solved. What ?! A girl can dream, can't she?
